Stevens Park Golf Course, located in Oak Cliff just southwest of downtown Dallas, is a municipal course that celebrates the past while embracing modern upgrades. Originally designed by club pros Jack Burke and Syd Cooper, this course holds historical significance as it was built on land donated by Walter A. Stevens and his sister Annie Laurie in memory of their parents. With its unique layout featuring hills, creeks, gullies, trees, and city streets, Stevens Park was known for its quirky design. In 2010, course architect John Colligan and his team revamped the layout, straightening holes, eliminating blind spots, and creating new holes to increase the length to approximately 6,300 yards with a par 70.

The renovations to Stevens Park Golf Course have not only modernized the layout but also improved the overall playing experience. The changes made by Colligan and his team have enhanced the course’s playability while still preserving several original corridors. By redesigning and reversing the direction of seven holes and adding eight entirely new holes, golfers can now enjoy a more challenging yet enjoyable round of golf at Stevens Park. The increase in length and removal of blind spots have made this course more suitable for players of all skill levels.

With its strategic design and challenging layout, Stevens Park Golf Course offers a unique golfing experience in the heart of Dallas. Players can test their skills on a variety of holes that require precision and strategy to navigate the course successfully. The preservation of the original design elements, combined with the modern upgrades, creates a harmonious blend of the past and present at Stevens Park. Golfers can appreciate the history of the course while enjoying the enhancements that have been made to improve the overall quality of play.

Stevens Park Golf Course is a hidden gem in Dallas that offers golfers a chance to experience a piece of history while playing a round of golf. The dedication to preserving the course’s heritage while making necessary improvements showcases a commitment to providing an exceptional golfing experience. Whether you’re a beginner looking to improve your game or a seasoned golfer seeking a new challenge, Stevens Park has something to offer for everyone. The course’s unique layout and strategic design elements make it a must-play destination for golf enthusiasts in the Dallas area.

Overall, Stevens Park Golf Course is a testament to the rich history of golf in Dallas and the efforts made to ensure its preservation for future generations to enjoy. The renovations made by John Colligan and his team have elevated the course to new heights while maintaining its original charm. Golfers can expect a challenging yet rewarding experience when they tee it up at Stevens Park, making it a top choice for those looking to play a round of golf in the Dallas area. With its blend of tradition and modernity, Stevens Park Golf Course stands as a memorable destination for golfers of all ages and skill levels.
