Tour caddie Geno Bonnalie recounts a frightening hotel-room experience in New Orleans

PGA Tour players often enjoy numerous travel perks, but the same cannot always be said for their caddies. Caddies often band together to rent accommodations while on tour, with some experiences being less than desirable. Joel Dahmen’s caddie, Geno Bonnalie, has gained attention for posting videos of questionable accommodations on social media, dubbing the series “Caddie Cribs.”

One particularly memorable hotel room incident involved a wet mattress that Bonnalie encountered in New Orleans. Despite the unpleasant surprise, Bonnalie opted to stay in the room rather than risk having to change accommodations. With the help of a roommate, Bonnalie attempted to dry out the mattress using a hairdryer, all while trying to avoid suspicion from hotel staff.

Bonnalie shared the cringe-worthy story with hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on a recent episode of Subpar. The episode delved into the realities of life on the road as a caddie, highlighting some of the less glamorous aspects of the job. Despite the challenges, Bonnalie shared some lighter stories, including his experience being featured in the Guinness Book of World Records.

As a member of Columbia’s first female varsity golf team, Bonnalie brings a unique perspective to her role at GOLF.com, where she is responsible for producing both print and online features. Her original interview series, “A Round With,” has been a popular addition to the magazine and website. With her background in competitive golf, Bonnalie brings a deep understanding of the sport to her work at GOLF.com.

Overall, the life of a PGA Tour caddie can be unpredictable and at times challenging, with experiences ranging from luxury accommodations to less than desirable living situations. While players often enjoy numerous perks while on tour, their caddies may face a different reality. Despite the challenges, caddies like Geno Bonnalie find ways to navigate the ups and downs of life on the road, sharing their experiences with humor and insight. Through platforms like social media and podcasts, caddies are able to shed light on the behind-the-scenes realities of the professional golf world.
