The 2024 Bridges Cup at Haesley Nine Bridges in South Korea saw the U.S. team of elite mid-amateurs hold onto their lead to defeat the International squad 17-15, securing their third straight win in the competition. Despite a valiant effort from the Internationals to claw back in the three-day competition and get within two points to begin the singles session, the 12-man American team managed to remain undefeated in the tournament.

In a thrilling final session, the Internationals initially showcased potential for a comeback, winning tightly contested matches early in the singles session. However, the Americans rallied towards the end, taking five of the last eight matches to secure the points needed to retain the cup. Drew Kittleson’s 2-and-1 win over Jacob Austin proved to be a turning point, with other team members like Scott Anderson, Andrew Medley, and Drew Stoltz also contributing significant victories to seal the U.S. win.

Despite the U.S. team clinching the 16 points required to retain the cup, Joseph Deraney’s victory in the anchor match against Angus Carrick further solidified their win. Deraney, who was 2 down after nine holes, managed to win three holes on the back nine, including the 18th with a long birdie putt, to secure a 1-up victory. The singles session ultimately ended as a 6-6 split between the two teams, highlighting the competitive nature of the event.

Simon Holmes, a golf professional and Bridges Cup commentator, emphasized the intensity and stress of the competition, praising the concept of mid-am team golf as a major success. Despite the Internationals arriving without their usual spark, their comeback efforts showcased the spirit of the event and the competitive nature of the players involved. The combination of 8AM and CJ, along with the mid-am team golf concept, proved to be a captivating and engaging format for the Bridges Cup.

The 2024 Bridges Cup results can be viewed for a comprehensive breakdown of the tournament. With the U.S. team showcasing their dominance and resilience in the face of the Internationals’ comeback attempts, the event provided thrilling moments and competitive golf action. As the Americans secured their third consecutive win in the competition, the Bridges Cup at Haesley Nine Bridges proved to be a testament to the skill and competitive spirit of mid-amateur golfers from around the world.
