We can all learn from Joaquin Niemann’s intriguing bag setup

Joaquin Niemann is one of the top players on the PGA Tour, and his bag showcases a masterclass in equipment optimization. Niemann’s bag is tailored to his unique swing characteristics as a low launch, mid-spin player. His bag includes a PING G440 LST driver with a GD DI 6X shaft, a 15 PING G440 Max 3-wood, a 21 PING G425 Max 7-wood, a 26* PING G430 hybrid, PING Blueprint S irons, PING S159 wedges, and a PING PLD Anser putter.

Niemann’s fitting process with his LIV Tour rep, Spencer Rothluebber, highlights the importance of matching equipment to a player’s specific swing tendencies and impact conditions. Niemann’s low launch angle and shallow impact necessitate the use of high lofted clubs, such as a 5-hybrid in place of a 4-iron, to help him achieve optimal ball flight. His ball of choice is the Titleist Pro V1 X ’25, which complements his high ball speed and low launch tendencies.

Niemann’s bag features slight modifications to standard Tour lengths, such as shorter 3-wood and 7-wood shafts to promote better contact and control. The addition of weight and adjustments to club lengths help to create a built-in speed governor for distance consistency. Additionally, Niemann uses softer 6.0 shafts in his irons and 6.5 shafts in his wedges for improved feel and performance across his set.

The PING G440 LST driver in Niemann’s bag is designed to deliver more ball speed through advanced technologies like PING’s shallow, thinner face and deepest CG to date. The G440 LST is geared towards players with faster swing speeds, providing lower spin and improved control for maximum distance and accuracy. Niemann’s bag setup showcases a blend of forgiveness, distance, and playability tailored to his unique swing characteristics and playing style.

Overall, Niemann’s bag serves as a prime example of the importance of equipment optimization in golf. By working closely with a qualified fitter and understanding how equipment choices can impact ball flight and performance, players can maximize their potential on the course. Niemann’s bag setup highlights the significance of finding the right combination of clubs, shafts, and ball to suit individual needs and preferences for optimal results. In conclusion, taking the time to get properly fitted for equipment can lead to improved performance and enjoyment of the game.
