Shanking the ball in golf can be one of the most frustrating flaws in the game. It can pop up unexpectedly and ruin an otherwise good round of golf. In this article, we will discuss some tips and drills to help you overcome the shanks and get your game back on track.

One of the most important things to remember when dealing with the shanks is to stay calm and not panic. It’s easy to get flustered when you start hitting shanks, but panicking will only make things worse. Take a deep breath, focus on your technique, and trust that you can overcome this challenge.

When the shanks show up during a round of golf, it can feel like there’s no escape. Every club with an exposed hosel becomes your enemy, and all you want to do is get off the golf course. However, sometimes you have to finish your round, and it’s crucial to know how to fight off the shanks when they strike.

The shank occurs when you expose the hosel of the club to the ball as you approach impact, causing the ball to rocket off to the right. To fix this issue, you need to focus on getting the strike back toward the middle of the clubface. One drill to help with this is the two-ball feel drill, where you imagine hitting a ball that is closer to you at address, rather than the one in your typical ball position.

Another helpful drill is the figure-eight drill, which focuses on correcting the club path during the downswing. By practicing the figure-eight motion with your wrists, you can promote a more in-to-out swing path, which can help eliminate the shanks from your game. Remember to focus on the loop feeling in the downswing and replicate it when hitting the ball.

It’s essential to work on your technique and focus on correcting any swing flaws that may be causing the shanks. Practice these drills regularly to improve your swing path and clubface impact, which can help prevent the shanks from recurring in the future. Stay patient and persistent in your efforts to overcome this challenging flaw in your golf game.

In conclusion, dealing with the shanks in golf can be a frustrating experience, but with the right mindset and practice, you can overcome this challenge. Remember to stay calm, focus on your technique, and practice drills that can help correct any swing flaws causing the shanks. By putting in the effort to improve your game, you can enjoy a more consistent and enjoyable round of golf. Good luck on the course!
