Why New Level’s Latest Forged Irons Suit a Wider Range of Players Than You Might Expect | Fully Equipped

New Level Golf’s Andy Hennis and Kevin Masterson are challenging the stereotype that forged irons are only for good golfers, while beginners or high-handicappers should stick to cast irons. They believe that their new 702 series of forged irons could be a good option for players looking for game improvement irons. On a recent episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, they explained how cast game improvement irons may actually be hindering players more than helping them.

Masterson, New Level’s managing director, highlighted that game improvement irons with two-piece forgings can create inconsistencies in a player’s game. By contrast, one-piece forgings like their new 702 series irons offer the consistency that improving golfers need. These irons also have weaker lofts compared to modern game-improvement irons, which helps players get the ball in the air more easily.

The New Level Golf 702 Forged Irons are designed for serious golfers seeking a balance of feel, forgiveness, and shot-making capability. The series includes three models – the 702-CB, 702-MB, and 702 + – to cater to different playing styles. The 702+ model has a slightly oversized profile for more distance and forgiveness without sacrificing precision and feel. It also features SPT Technology, Progressive Geometry, and Tour-Level Refinement for enhanced performance.

Masterson pointed out that many golfers come in using multi-material game improvement irons that launch the ball too low and spin too low. By customizing the loft angles of the irons, New Level can help these golfers achieve better launch conditions with higher carry distances while still maintaining control over the ball. The CB and Plus models of the 702 series cater to both elite ball-strikers and less experienced golfers looking to improve their game.

Jack Hirsh, the Associate Equipment Editor at GOLF, praises the New Level 702 Forged Irons for their precision forging and CNC milling, delivering the premium feel and feedback desired by players. He notes that these irons are suitable for a wide range of players, from elite ball-strikers to those refining their skills on the course. With their innovative design and performance features, the 702 series aims to provide golfers with the tools they need to elevate their game and achieve their best results.
