Scottie Scheffler is currently on a hot streak, winning his second major championship and ninth career PGA Tour victory, followed by another win in Hilton Head. This streak of four wins and a runner-up in his last five starts has drawn comparisons to two legendary golfers: Tiger Woods and Johnny Miller. Tiger Woods began his era of dominance in 1999, winning 10 more PGA Tour events and his second major at the age of 23. He went on to win his last four starts of the season and had a strong start the following season. Scheffler’s recent success has mirrored Tiger’s streak, showing similar signs of greatness.

On the other hand, Johnny Miller’s career also had moments of brilliance, winning two majors and dominating the western United States golf scene. His career was marked by periods of great success followed by struggles with putting consistency, known as the “yips.” This mental challenge affected his performance and led to a decline in his career. Despite his setbacks, Miller managed to win sporadically throughout the 1980s and even secured a surprise victory at Pebble Beach in 1994.

Scheffler’s recent streak of victories in major tournaments, including The Masters, Phoenix, Bay Hill, and the Players Championship, shows promising potential for his career. He has improved his putting game, currently ranking 93rd on Tour in “shots gained: putting,” a significant improvement from last season. Injuries and personal issues can impact a golfer’s career, as seen with Tiger Woods, but overcoming putting struggles will be crucial for Scheffler’s path to success.

As Scheffler prepares for his next tournament at the PGA Championship in Louisville, the question remains: Will he follow in the footsteps of Tiger Woods’ dominance or succumb to the challenges faced by Johnny Miller? Both Woods and Miller’s careers serve as cautionary tales of the unpredictable nature of golf, where mental fortitude and consistency are key to sustained success. Scheffler’s current form and recent accomplishments suggest he has the potential to become one of the greats in the sport, but only time will tell which path he ultimately follows.

In conclusion, Scottie Scheffler’s recent success in the PGA Tour has drawn comparisons to legendary golfers Tiger Woods and Johnny Miller. While Woods achieved a period of dominance in the late 1990s, Miller’s career was marked by moments of brilliance followed by struggles with putting consistency. Scheffler’s current hot streak and improvements in his game show promising potential for his career, but overcoming mental challenges such as putting issues will be crucial for his future success. Ultimately, the path Scheffler chooses to follow will determine his legacy in the world of golf, with lessons to be learned from both Woods’ dominance and Miller’s challenges.
