As the golf world focuses on Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, many top players like Will Zalatoris are competing in the DP World Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa. Zalatoris, known affectionately as Willy Z, has been putting in extensive work during the offseason to return to top form after winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship in 2022. The 28-year-old golfer mentioned that this offseason was the first true break he’s had in years, allowing him to focus on building muscle, increasing speed, and improving his game.
Zalatoris took a break from playing to concentrate on his physical fitness, consuming a diet of 4,500 calories a day and 200 grams of protein to enhance his training routine. After suffering a back injury that forced him to withdraw from the Masters in 2023 and undergo surgery, the fan-favorite golfer has been dedicated to his recovery and comeback. His hard work seems to be paying off, with Zalatoris currently tied for 41st after the first round of the Nedbank tournament.
Aside from golf, Zalatoris took some time to explore the wildlife in South Africa by going on a safari. He was thrilled to have seen lions, monkeys, giraffes, hippos, and more during his safari experience. The opportunity to witness the diverse wildlife in its natural habitat was a memorable experience for Zalatoris during his time in South Africa.
With defending champion Max Homa leading the field at 6 under after the first round, Zalatoris will continue to focus on improving his performance and climbing up the leaderboard in the Nedbank Golf Challenge. His dedication to training and his commitment to the game show his determination to compete at the highest level and achieve success in the upcoming tournaments. Golf fans will be keeping an eye on Zalatoris as he continues his journey back to the top of the leaderboard in the DP World Tour’s Nedbank Golf Challenge and beyond.
