The U.S. Open has been held at Pinehurst No. 2 on three occasions, in the years 1999, 2005, and 2014, with the fourth contest at the historic North Carolina venue taking place this week. Throughout these years, three players emerged as champions at this prestigious event. Payne Stewart won in 1999, Michael Campbell clinched victory in 2005, and Martin Kaymer triumphed in 2014. Each of these players had a specific set of golf clubs in their bag that contributed to their success on the course.

In 1999, Payne Stewart utilized a Titleist 975D driver with 9.5 degrees of loft, an Orlimar Tri-Metal 3-wood with 13 degrees of loft, and a set of Mizuno irons including the Pro MS-4 and MP-14. Stewart also had Cleveland and Ping wedges, a SeeMore putter, and played with Titleist Tour Prestige 90 golf balls. These clubs formed the winning combination for Stewart at the U.S. Open held at Pinehurst No. 2.

In 2005, Michael Campbell achieved victory at the U.S. Open with a set of Callaway clubs in his bag. This included a Callaway FT-5 driver, Steelhead 3-wood, Heavenwood hybrid, X-Tour irons, and Forged wedges. Campbell also used an Odyssey White Hot #6 putter and played with Callaway HX Tour golf balls. This specific combination of clubs and equipment helped Campbell secure the championship at Pinehurst No. 2.

In 2014, Martin Kaymer emerged as the champion at the U.S. Open with a set of TaylorMade golf clubs in his bag. Kaymer utilized a TaylorMade SLDR 460 driver with a 9.5-degree loft, SLDR 3-wood with 14 degrees of loft, and a set of Tour Preferred MC irons. He also had TaylorMade TP xFT wedges, a Ping Karsten Anser 2 putter, and played with TaylorMade Lethal golf balls. These clubs played a crucial role in Kaymer’s success at Pinehurst No. 2.

Overall, the winners of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, Payne Stewart, Michael Campbell, and Martin Kaymer, all had specific combinations of golf clubs in their bags that contributed to their victories. This highlights the importance of having the right equipment tailored to the player’s game and the conditions of the course. As the fourth contest at Pinehurst No. 2 approaches this week, golf enthusiasts can look back at these past champions and their winning club setups for inspiration and insight into the game at the highest level.
