Xander Schauffele recently won his first major championship at the PGA Championship, finally shedding the title of “Best Player Never To Win A Major”. Despite numerous close calls in the past, Schauffele was able to secure his victory at Valhalla last month. In a recent press conference before his first start since his PGA triumph, Schauffele reflected on some of his previous close calls, including the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

During the 2018 Open Championship, Schauffele found himself in a strong position heading into the final round, tied for the lead with Jordan Spieth and Kevin Kisner. However, a difficult front nine saw both Schauffele and Spieth struggle, allowing Francesco Molinari to pull ahead and eventually win. Schauffele noted that it was a learning experience for him, highlighting the importance of staying calm and in control during major championships.

Despite the struggles on the front nine, Schauffele was able to make a late surge with birdies on the back nine, coming up just two shots short of Molinari. Looking back on that experience, Schauffele emphasized the importance of learning from losses and using them as motivation for future success. This mindset likely played a role in his recent victory at the PGA Championship, where he was able to maintain a strong performance throughout the tournament.

Reflecting on past experiences and close calls is a key part of Schauffele’s preparation for future tournaments. By analyzing what went wrong in previous events, Schauffele is able to make adjustments and improvements to his game, ensuring that he is better prepared for future challenges. This mindset of continuous improvement and learning from setbacks is a crucial aspect of success in professional golf.

As Schauffele prepares to compete in the Memorial tournament, he is paired with Viktor Hovland for the first two rounds. With his recent major victory under his belt, Schauffele is likely feeling confident and motivated to continue his success on the course. The Memorial tournament will provide him with another opportunity to showcase his skills and compete against the best players in the world.

Schauffele’s journey to his first major victory has been marked by perseverance, determination, and a willingness to learn from past experiences. By remaining focused and committed to his goals, Schauffele has been able to overcome previous setbacks and achieve success at the highest level of the sport. As he continues to compete in future tournaments, fans and fellow competitors will be watching to see if Schauffele can build on his recent success and establish himself as one of the top players in the world.
