Xander Schauffele made a last-minute decision to compete in the Valspar Championship after barely making the cut at the Players Championship. Despite a rough weekend at TPC Sawgrass, Schauffele found himself back in contention at Innisbrook, trailing by just two shots entering the weekend. His return from a rib injury was marked by a lengthy grind session before the tournament, with Schauffele blowing through his allotted ball count in practice.

Schauffele admitted to focusing too much on his golf swing rather than playing golf itself at the Players Championship, leading to a disappointing performance. He recognized the need to shift his focus back to playing the game and not overthinking technical moves. With Viktor Hovland also in contention at the Valspar Championship, Schauffele is looking to improve his short game and putting to climb up the leaderboard. Despite limited competitive reps since January, Schauffele is simulating extra practice on the range, likening it to cramming for a test.

Having made the cut for the 60th consecutive time, Schauffele will have two more opportunities to fine-tune his game over the weekend at a challenging course like Innisbrook. The course demands precision and strategy, with tree-lined fairways and few hazards testing players’ shot-making abilities. Schauffele sees the tournament as an opportunity to hang in contention and potentially compete for the title on Sunday. Despite the competitive nature of the field, Schauffele remains focused on playing his best golf and making smart decisions on the course.

Competing in the Valspar Championship represents a crucial opportunity for Schauffele to find his form before the upcoming Masters Tournament. With his body holding up and a renewed focus on playing the game rather than the technical aspects, Schauffele is determined to make the most of his competitive reps. He views the grinding process as invigorating and a chance to improve his game under pressure. As the tournament progresses, Schauffele will continue to work on his weaknesses and strive to climb the leaderboard with solid play.

Overall, Xander Schauffele’s performance at the Valspar Championship reflects his resilience and determination to bounce back from setbacks. With a focus on playing golf rather than overthinking technical aspects, Schauffele is positioned to contend for the title and build momentum heading into the Masters Tournament. Despite limited competitive reps, Schauffele’s strategic approach and dedication to improvement set him apart as a serious contender on the PGA Tour. As the tournament unfolds, spectators can expect to see Schauffele’s competitive spirit shine through as he navigates the challenges of Innisbrook and competes against a talented field of players.
