The U.S. Open tournament at Pinehurst #2 has sparked some debate on social media about whether the viewing public is ready for three tournaments over a twelve-year span at this course. While some believe that the course lacks visual appeal due to its flat topography, many players on Day One showed great affection for the course. Scores were low, with twenty golfers finishing under par. The USGA set challenging hole locations, forcing competitors to play strategically and rely on their putting skills.

One standout player on Day One was Patrick Cantlay, who had an impressive round with only one bogey and six birdies. Cantlay’s performance has raised questions about when he will win another tournament, considering he has not won since 2022. Another player to watch is Ludvig Aberg, who shot a 66 and demonstrated his consistency and confidence on the course. Matthieu Pavon, known as the “Peacock”, made two eagles on the long holes at Pinehurst and finished the day at three-under par.

Rory McIlroy had a flawless round with no bogeys, showcasing his driving skills and putting precision. Despite recent personal news, McIlroy focused on his golf game and tied for the lead after Day One. Bryson DeChambeau, the 2020 US Open champion, continued his strong performance in majors with a top-five finish on the first day. DeChambeau will look to position himself for a weekend charge by posting a strong number on the second day.

Overall, the top players on Day One demonstrated their skill and strategy on the challenging Pinehurst #2 course. The tournament is set to be an exciting competition with players like Cantlay, Aberg, Pavon, McIlroy, and DeChambeau in contention for the title. The US Open championship at Pinehurst promises to provide viewers with thrilling golf action and unpredictable outcomes. As the tournament progresses, golf fans can expect to see more impressive performances and exciting moments from the top players in the field.
