The golf world was taken by surprise when Seth Waugh announced his departure from the PGA of America after his contract was not renewed. During his time as CEO, Waugh oversaw the relocation of the PGA headquarters to a new campus in Frisco, Texas, complete with championship golf courses and committed to bringing 26 future PGA America championships to the area. This included the upcoming PGA Professional Championship in April, which will be held at the newly built courses.

One of the major accomplishments of Waugh’s tenure was securing an 11-year TV deal with CBS and ESPN starting in 2020. This deal was a lucrative one for the organization and helped to expand the reach of the PGA brand. However, despite his contributions to the game of golf, it is now time for a new leader to take the reins at one of the sport’s largest organizations.

The news of Waugh’s departure was met with a range of reactions from the golf community. Some saw it as an opportunity for a fresh start, while others expressed disappointment at his departure. Some even found humor in the situation, with one Twitter user joking that PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan should follow suit.

Others speculated on what the future might hold for the PGA of America, with one Twitter user suggesting that the PGA Tour could potentially “buy” the Ryder Cup from the organization. This idea sparked debate among fans and analysts, with some seeing it as a way to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations.

Overall, Waugh’s departure marks the end of an era for the PGA of America and the beginning of a new chapter. The organization will now be tasked with finding a new leader who can build on Waugh’s accomplishments and continue to grow the sport of golf. Only time will tell what the future holds for the PGA of America and its role in the world of professional golf.
