The Dow Championship is an event where team golf brings out the best in players, with past winners experiencing a significant boost in their careers. One such example is Cydney Clanton, who was ranked 269th in the world and playing on the Epson Tour before teaming up with Jasmine Suwannapura to win the Dow Championship in 2019. This victory helped Clanton secure her first LPGA title and return to the big tour.

In the 2023 edition of the Dow Championship, Elizabeth Szokol teamed up with Cheyenne Knight to earn her first LPGA title at the age of 29, showcasing the power of teamwork in golf. This year, Sandra Gal and Maude-Aimee Leblanc have teamed up, with Gal making a comeback after battling Lyme disease and undergoing hip surgery. The duo, known as “The Shorties,” started strong with an opening round of 67 in the alternate-shot format.

Despite their individual world rankings of 813th for Gal and 386th for Leblanc, the pair showed great synergy on the course, with Gal’s strong wedge shots complementing Leblanc’s long drives. The tournament provides them with an opportunity to bond and compete together, offering a fresh start for both players in their careers.

The winning team at the Dow Championship will receive a two-year exemption, CME points, and prize money. However, certain accolades such as Rolex Player of the Year and U.S. Solheim Cup points will not be allocated. This offers players like Gal and Leblanc a chance to earn crucial points and improve their standings on the LPGA Official Money List and Race to the CME Globe standings.

Another duo to watch out for at the championship is Team FinAsia, comprised of Matilda Castren and Kelly Tan, who have a strong friendship that dates back to their days on the Epson Tour. Tan even served as Castren’s maid of honor, showcasing the bond between the two players. With Tan ranked 905th and Castren 369th in the Rolex Rankings, the tournament presents an opportunity for them to showcase their skills.

The tournament features a variety of team formats, including four-ball and alternate-shot, adding an exciting dynamic to the competition. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 33 teams and ties, with a purse of $3 million up for grabs. The first-place team will receive a prize of $732,165, providing a significant financial incentive for players to perform well.

Overall, the Dow Championship is an opportunity for players to showcase their teamwork skills, bond with their partners, and earn important points and prize money. For players like Gal, Leblanc, Castren, and Tan, the event presents a chance to make a mark in their careers and propel themselves to greater success in the world of professional golf. The unique team format adds an exciting element to the competition, making it a must-watch event for golf fans around the world.
