Bernhard Langer Gears Up for Last European Tour Appearance

Bernhard Langer, one of Europe’s most successful golfers, is preparing for his 513th and final DP World Tour appearance at the BMW International Open in Germany. Born just 60 miles from Golfclub Munich Eichenried, Langer has more than 120 professional wins to his name, including two Masters championships and being the first-ever World No.1 in men’s golf. He is one of only five players to have won events on all six continents where golf is played, with three PGA Tour titles and 42 European Tour victories. Langer has since transitioned to senior golf circuits where he holds the record for the most senior Major championships and over 50 titles.

Langer, now 66 years old, underwent Achilles surgery earlier in the year after a pickleball accident. While he is not fully retiring this week, he is closing a 50-year chapter of competing on the European and DP World Tour. Playing alongside Italian Open winner Marcel Siem and fellow German golfer Marten Kaymer, Langer knows the next few days will be emotional. His ties to the Golfclub Munich Eichenried and the support he has received from his friends and family over the years make this tournament particularly special for him.

Langer expressed his gratitude for being able to play in front of the home crowd and hopes to make the cut despite the challenges posed by the longer course. He reminisced about growing up near the course and working as an Assistant professional at the Munich Country Club. This tournament marks his first experience of saying goodbye to something in the game of golf, and he anticipates it to be a very emotional moment for him. Langer’s playing partner, Marcel Siem, is also a fellow German with aspirations of joining Langer as a Ryder Cup winner at Bethpage Black next year after clinching his sixth DP World Tour prize in Italy.

Siem, who admires Langer’s achievements and considers him a role model, acknowledges the difficulty of matching Langer’s success but remains inspired by his outstanding behavior, unique technique, and work ethic. As Langer concludes his illustrious career on the DP World Tour, golf enthusiasts worldwide celebrate his legacy and contributions to the sport. With a record-breaking number of titles and championships to his name, Langer’s impact on golf will be remembered for generations to come.
