9 Exciting Possible Endings for the Open Championship on Sunday

The Open Championship at Royal Troon has been a rollercoaster of wind, rain, and surprises, with top players like Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods missing the cut, while others like Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler making it through. There are 24 players within six shots of the lead, making for an exhilarating final round. As the five-man group tied for three under prepares for Sunday, excitement is building for a potentially chaotic finish.

With the leader Billy Horschel alone in the lead through 54 holes, the stage is set for a dramatic conclusion at Royal Troon. Justin Rose believes that one of the five players at three under will emerge as the standout performer on Sunday. As the battle for the Claret Jug intensifies, there are nine possible scenarios for how the tournament could end, with various players in contention for the title.

Sam Burns, who started the championship at seven over par, has rallied with 13 birdies and three bogeys since then. If he were to continue his strong play and ultimately win, it would redefine how we view early struggles in a tournament. Meanwhile, Justin Rose is vying for his second major title and a potential spot in the Hall of Fame with a win at Royal Troon.

Justin Thomas, who has been hinting at greatness recently, sits four shots off the lead entering the final round. A strong Sunday charge could see him emerge victorious and force a reevaluation of his career trajectory. Billy Horschel, the current leader, has garnered attention for his fashion choices, including wearing his cap backwards, but could win over European fans with a victory.

Daniel Brown, a relatively unknown player on the DP World Tour, is also in contention, just one shot off the lead. His habit of smoking cigarettes on the course has raised eyebrows, but a win at the Open Championship would certainly elevate his status in the golf world. Jon Rahm and Collin Morikawa, both seeking their third major titles, could potentially engage in a playoff for immortality with strong final rounds.

Shane Lowry, the leader for much of the tournament, is aiming for a strong finish after some struggles on Saturday. Xander Schauffele, a steady presence on the tour, could create a dilemma for PGA Tour Player of the Year voters with a win at Royal Troon. However, it is Scottie Scheffler who is poised to shine, with a potential victory at the Open Championship solidifying his status as one of the best players on the PGA Tour. A win for Scheffler would be a crowning achievement in an already impressive season.
