Matt NeSmith has made a significant move up the FedEx Cup points list, climbing 51 spots to No. 81 after two rounds at the 2024 3M Open. While there is still work to be done to break into the top 70, NeSmith’s strong play this week is helping his cause. Following his second-round 64 that got him to 10 under, NeSmith is staying focused on playing good golf and letting the results take care of themselves. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the right mindset and approaching each shot one at a time.

At 30 years old, NeSmith is competing in his 139th PGA Tour event and is in search of his first victory. Despite not yet claiming a win, he has two runner-up finishes, including a recent top-two finish in a five-way playoff. NeSmith reflected on that close call, describing it as one of the nearest moments he’s had to winning a tournament since joining the PGA Tour. He found it reassuring to be back in contention and believes in his ability to compete at the highest level.

During Friday’s round, NeSmith opened with two birdies, added another at the sixth hole, and then sank an eagle on the par-5 12th after hitting his second shot to 14 feet. With a total of nine birdies and just one bogey so far, NeSmith’s solid play has put him in a favorable position heading into the weekend. He views each tournament as an opportunity to showcase his skills and build upon past successes.

NeSmith’s positive momentum at the 3M Open is a testament to his hard work and dedication to the game of golf. He expressed gratitude for being in contention and having a chance to win, acknowledging the challenges and rewards that come with competitive play. With a focus on staying present and executing each shot to the best of his ability, NeSmith aims to carry his success forward into future events.

As NeSmith looks ahead to the remainder of the tournament, he remains committed to his game plan and maintaining his competitive edge. He recognizes the importance of consistency and mental fortitude in professional golf and strives to embody these qualities in his play. With a solid foundation of experience and skill, NeSmith is poised to capitalize on his current form and make a push for his first PGA Tour victory.

In conclusion, Matt NeSmith’s impressive performance at the 3M Open highlights his potential as a rising star on the PGA Tour. With a determined mindset and a strong belief in his abilities, NeSmith continues to showcase his talent and compete at the highest level. As he navigates the challenges and opportunities that come with professional golf, NeSmith remains focused on achieving his goal of securing his first tournament win. With a combination of skill, experience, and perseverance, NeSmith is well-positioned to make his mark on the PGA Tour and establish himself as a formidable contender in future events.
