The Tokyo Olympics in 2020 featured golf for the second consecutive Games, with men’s and women’s competitions taking place at Kasumigaseki Country Club. The men’s competition included 60 players, with 14 future LIV Golf signees competing from 11 different nations. The bronze medal was decided in a seven-man playoff, with CT Pan eventually claiming the spot.
One of the LIV Golf players, Mito Pereira, qualified for the Olympics after Cristobal del Solar decided not to play in Paris. Xander Schauffele won the gold medal in Tokyo, with future 4 Aces GC player Patrick Reed finishing comfortably in T22. Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri improved on his 2016 Olympics finish, while Carlos Ortiz earned his place in Paris thanks to some successes away from the circuit.
Finland’s Kalle Samooja, who finished T45 in Tokyo, later earned a contract with LIV Golf through its Promotions event. Marc Leishman, who finished T51, would later team up with Cameron Smith on Ripper GC. One of the players who joined LIV Golf earlier in the year, Adrian Meronk, finished T51 in Tokyo and will tee it up in Paris.
