The 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has reached the quarterfinal stage, with eight players vying for the Robert Cox Trophy. Following a grueling Thursday, where golfers battled windy conditions in the morning and sunny warmth in the afternoon, these eight elite players emerged victorious. Among them are a U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, a past Augusta National champion, and the 2024 NCAA Division I individual champion.
One standout player is Maria Jose Marin, a rising sophomore at Arkansas and SEC Freshman of the Year. Despite being 2 down on the 16th tee, Marin staged an incredible comeback against Maisie Filler to win three straight holes, including a stunning bunker shot on the 18th, securing a 1-up victory. Another notable player, Anna Davis, the 2022 Augusta National Women’s Amateur champion, also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-and-1 triumph over Anna Morgan.
Adela Cernousek, the 2024 NCAA Division I individual champion from Texas A&M, forced the first extra holes match of the week and emerged victorious on the 20th hole against Lauren Kim from Texas. Asterisk Talley, who has had an outstanding summer, continued her success with a 7-and-6 victory over Angela Hao. Kendall Todd, a rising senior at Arkansas, also impressed with a 7-and-6 win over Rocio Tejedo, becoming the lowest-ranked player in the quarterfinals.
Kelly Xu, a rising junior at Stanford, cruised to a 4-and-3 victory over Farah O’Keefe, a sophomore at Texas and the Western Women’s Amateur winner. Catherine Rao, who missed her entire sophomore season at Princeton due to a shoulder injury, advanced to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. Rianne Mikhaela Malixi, the recent U.S. Girls’ Junior champion, continued her winning streak by defeating Scarlett Schremmer 3 and 2.
The quarterfinal matchups include Maria Jose Marin vs. Anna Davis, Asterisk Talley vs. Adela Cernousek, Kelly Xu vs. Kendall Todd, and Rianne Malixi vs. Catherine Rao. The quarterfinal rounds will take place on Friday, with television coverage on Peacock from 3-6 p.m. ET. The tournament will continue on Saturday and Sunday, with coverage on the Golf Channel from 3-6 p.m. ET on both days.
