Harry Redknapp’s All Star HEROS Golf Day was a successful event that brought together footballing and sporting greats with members of the public to raise money for HEROS Charity. The charity provides learning opportunities for children with special needs by working with retired racehorses. The event took place at Ferndown Golf Club in Dorset, where 22 teams, each featuring a celebrity, participated in a day of golf, followed by a dinner, auction, and prize-giving ceremony.
In the team event, the winning team consisted of former football manager Tony Pulis, along with Dave Barratt, James Bidwell, and Steve Brander, who scored 94 points. Second place was awarded on countback to a team featuring Paul Walsh, Harry Shaw, Luke Ansell, and Simon Watson, with 89 points. The third-place team included former Bath and England Rugby centre Jeremy Guscott, Peter Youell, Ben Davis, and Richard Parker.
Prizes were also awarded for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive, sponsored by Skechers with prizes provided by Yumax Golf and golftrophy.co.uk. Nearest the Pin was won by racehorse trainer John Flint, while Longest Drive went to Fergal O’Brien’s Assistant Charlie St Quinton. The event raised funds for HEROS Charity, which provides educational opportunities for children with special needs through their Enrichment Programme for SEN students aged 11-16.
In addition to the Enrichment Programme, HEROS also offers post-16 Diploma courses in Horse Care and Animal Care for SEN students with EHCPs to help them find relevant jobs after completing the program. The charity uses former racehorses as part of their education model, which has proven to be successful for both the horses and the students. Funds raised at the golf day will contribute to converting existing buildings at HEROS into a new Education Centre to accommodate up to 120 students per week.
Harry Redknapp, a patron of HEROS Charity, expressed his admiration for the work they do for former racehorses and young people. He was pleased to see so many people come out to support the event and hopes to continue raising awareness and funds for the charity. HEROS CEO Grace Muir was pleased with the success of the golf day and thanked Harry Redknapp, the celebrities, sponsors, and players for their support. Plans are already underway for next year’s event to continue spreading the HEROS message.
Overall, Harry Redknapp’s All Star HEROS Golf Day was a successful fundraising event that brought together various celebrities, sports enthusiasts, and supporters to raise money for a worthy cause. The event not only raised funds for HEROS Charity but also helped raise awareness of the important work they do with children with special needs and retired racehorses. The success of the event has paved the way for future fundraising efforts to support the expansion of HEROS’ educational programs and outreach initiatives.
