Surrey amateur golfer Lottie Woad has made history by becoming the first English woman to win the prestigious Mark H McCormack Medal for being the leading woman in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for 2024. This achievement has earned her exemptions into major tournaments such as the US Women’s Open and the AIG Women’s Open for the following year. Woad, who is only 20 years old, expressed her joy and gratitude for winning the award, stating that it was a long-held goal of hers to reach the number one spot and become the world’s top female amateur golfer.

In addition to winning the McCormack Medal, Woad’s impressive year includes becoming the first European golfer to win the Augusta National Women’s Amateur earlier in the year. Her victory at the prestigious event was sealed with a dramatic finish as she birdied the final two holes to claim the title by one shot over American Bailey Shoemaker. Woad has also achieved several second-place finishes in prominent tournaments, showcasing her consistency and talent on the golf course. Her success has culminated in being selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the upcoming Curtis Cup against the USA.

Lottie Woad’s exceptional performance and dedication to the sport have not gone unnoticed by golfing authorities and experts. Professor Steve Otto, Chief Technology Officer at The R&A, praised Woad’s consistent high-level performance throughout the year, particularly highlighting her victory at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. The significance of winning the McCormack Medal was further emphasized by John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer, who commended Woad’s relentless effort and determination in achieving the world’s top amateur ranking.

The McCormack Medal is a prestigious honor that has been awarded to top amateur golfers over the years, many of whom have gone on to become successful professionals in the sport. By joining the ranks of past winners, Lottie Woad has solidified her place among the best in the world and has set the stage for a promising future in her golf career. Her remarkable achievement serves as a powerful testament to her dedication and passion for the sport, as well as her unwavering commitment to reaching the pinnacle of amateur golf.

As Woad prepares to compete in the upcoming Curtis Cup and other renowned tournaments, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation surrounding her future endeavors in the sport.
