Hatton kicks off his Ryder Cup qualification campaign at the British Masters

LIV golfer Tyrrell Hatton is gearing up to participate in the British Masters at the Belfry on the DP World Tour as he embarks on his quest to qualify for the next year’s Ryder Cup team. After leaving the DP World Tour earlier this year to join LIV Golf, Hatton’s world ranking has slipped from 16 to 34 over the past eight months. However, strong showings at the Masters and US Open have helped him stay within the top 50 in the world rankings.

In order to remain eligible to compete for Europe in the 2025 Ryder Cup in New York, Hatton must retain his DP World Tour card by participating in four events outside of the major championships. Despite joining LIV Golf, Hatton is still a member of the DP World Tour and is committed to playing in upcoming events such as the British Masters, Dunhill Links, and Spanish Open to improve his chances of securing a spot on the Ryder Cup team.

Like other LIV Golf players, Hatton has faced fines for competing in LIV events that clash with those on the DP World Tour. However, he has appealed against these penalties, leaving the possibility of him competing in DP World Tour events open. The outcome of his appeal is pending, and it remains unclear whether he would be willing to pay any fines if he loses the appeal.

Although Hatton has not competed in DP World Tour events since January, when he finished tied for 9th at the Dubai Desert Classic, he has been successful on the LIV circuit, earning over $10 million in prize money and currently ranking fifth on LIV’s individual order of merit. However, his decision not to participate in the BMW PGA Championship next month due to a scheduling conflict with the LIV Golf Team Championship in Dallas could impact his chances of making the Ryder Cup team.

European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald is unlikely to offer any picks to LIV golfers, meaning that Hatton will need to secure a position in the top six on the Ryder Cup points list in order to earn a spot on the team. Despite the challenges he faces in balancing his commitments to both LIV Golf and the DP World Tour, Hatton remains focused on achieving his goal of representing Europe in the Ryder Cup. With a strong performance at upcoming events and a favorable resolution to his appeal, Hatton will strive to secure his place on the prestigious international golf team.
