Jiyai Shin took the lead on day three of the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews with an impressive five-under 67, bringing her total score to seven-under-par. The Korean golfer, who previously won this tournament in 2008 and 2012, started strong with consecutive birdies on the first two holes but then dropped a shot on the third. She went on to score three more birdies on holes seven, eight, and nine, as well as another on the 12th hole. Despite a bogey on the 14th, Shin finished strong with a final birdie on the 17th to secure her position at the top of the leaderboard.

Defending champion Lilia Vu sits in second place, just one shot behind Shin, after carding a 71 with five birdies, one double bogey, and two bogeys. World number one Nelly Korda, who had led at the halfway stage, struggled on day three with a three-over 75, dropping her to third place at five-under-par. Despite a challenging round, Korda remains optimistic going into the final day of the tournament, aiming to maintain a positive attitude and build on the momentum from her strong performance in the previous rounds.

New Zealand’s Lydia Ko and Korea’s Jenny Shin are tied for fourth place, one shot behind the leaders, while four players are in a tie for sixth place at three-under-par. Six players are further back in a tie for tenth place, including Esther Henseleit, Albane Valenzuela, Charley Hull, and Casandra Alexander. The leaderboard is tightly packed with top golfers from around the world, setting the stage for an exciting final day of competition at St Andrews.

Jiyai Shin expressed confidence in her performance on the challenging links course at St Andrews, citing her previous experience and success in similar conditions. Her 64 wins worldwide attest to her skill and determination as a golfer, making her a formidable competitor in this prestigious tournament. As the current leader, Shin will face strong competition from players like Lilia Vu and Nelly Korda, who are within striking distance of the top spot.

The final day of the AIG Women’s Open promises to be a tough challenge with high winds and the possibility of rain adding to the difficulty of the course. With the leaderboard tightly packed and several top players within reach of the lead, the competition is sure to be intense as the golfers vie for the coveted title and prize money at St Andrews.
