Nelly Korda, the World No. 1, had a tumultuous final day at the 2024 AIG Women’s Open, ultimately missing out on a second major victory. This disappointing finish came after a roller-coaster season where she went on a hot streak, winning six of seven LPGA events, including a major championship. However, she later struggled, missing cuts and facing setbacks at other tournaments. Despite these challenges, Korda arrived at the Old Course looking to conquer her demons and return to the winner’s circle.

Korda started strong at the Women’s Open, taking the 36-hole lead after opening with back-to-back 68s in challenging conditions. However, her lead slipped away in the third round when she shot a three-over 75, allowing Jiyai Shin to take the lead. On the final day, Korda made a strong comeback, making birdies to take a two-shot lead. But disaster struck at the par-5 14th hole, where a costly double-bogey derailed her chances of victory. Despite making a par on the 18th hole, she finished tied for second at five under, two shots behind Lydia Ko, who took the title.

Korda reflected on her performance, acknowledging the mistakes that cost her the tournament but also highlighting the positives from the week. She recognized the unpredictable nature of golf and expressed determination to learn from the experience and improve in future events. Despite the disappointment of yet another near-miss at a major, Korda remained optimistic about her game and her ability to bounce back from setbacks.

The Women’s Open saw intense competition and dramatic moments, with Korda’s final-round struggles adding to the excitement. The challenging conditions at the Old Course tested the players’ skills and mental fortitude, leading to unpredictable outcomes and thrilling finishes. Despite Korda’s setbacks, the tournament showcased the talent and resilience of the top women golfers in the world, highlighting the competitive nature of the sport.

Ko’s victory at the Women’s Open marked a significant moment in her career, securing her first major title in eight years. The New Zealand golfer’s strong performance under pressure, including a crucial birdie on the final hole, showcased her skill and composure in high-stakes situations. As Korda and other top players continue to compete at the highest level, the women’s golf landscape remains exciting and unpredictable, with new champions emerging and established stars facing new challenges.

Moving forward, Korda will use the lessons learned from the Women’s Open to improve her game and prepare for upcoming events. Her resilience and determination to overcome setbacks will serve her well as she continues to pursue success on the LPGA Tour. With her talent and competitive spirit, Korda remains a force to be reckoned with in women’s golf, poised to achieve more accomplishments and add to her impressive resume. As the season progresses, fans can expect more thrilling moments and intense competition from Korda and her fellow competitors on the tour.
