Nick Faldo Criticizes Tyrrell Hatton’s Performance at LIV Golf

Sir Nick Faldo is excited to have Tyrrell Hatton participating in his Betfred British Masters tournament, but he couldn’t resist taking a swipe at LIV Golf, suggesting that Hatton wants to play in a “proper tournament” at The Belfry. Hatton, who recently joined Greg Norman’s Saudi-backed tour, is teeing it up at the British Masters, his first DP World Tour start since making the move in January. Despite playing in LIV Golf events, Hatton has not resigned as a DP World Tour member and is aiming to play in four sanctioned events to be eligible for Ryder Cup selection.

The British Masters marks the beginning of the qualifying race for Luke Donald’s European team to compete against the Americans at Bethpage Black next year. Hatton’s presence adds star power to the event, and Faldo is pleased with his participation. Faldo commended Hatton’s determination to qualify for the Ryder Cup despite not receiving points for playing in LIV Golf events, highlighting his commitment to the team and the sport.

Although opinions on the standard and format of LIV Golf may vary, Hatton has had a successful debut season with the league, securing a victory at the Nashville event and ranking second in the team standings with Rahm’s Legion XIII outfit. Financially, Hatton has been profitable, sitting fifth on the LIV Golf money list after earning $10.6 million from 12 events. Despite mixed results in Majors, Hatton’s performance at The Masters earned him an invite for next year’s tournament, and he is aiming to qualify for other major events through strong finishes in the coming season.

With no recognition from the Official World Golf Ranking for LIV Golf events, Hatton is focusing on a late-season run of events on the European calendar to boost his chances of qualifying for the 2025 Majors and fulfilling his Ryder Cup aspirations. He is looking to participate in the Spanish Open and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship to qualify for the closing Playoff events on the DP World Tour. His success at The Belfry will be critical in kickstarting his Ryder Cup bid and setting a strong foundation for his future endeavors in the sport.

In addition to his competitive ambitions, Hatton’s participation in the British Masters signifies his dedication to the game and his eagerness to succeed at the highest levels of professional golf. Faldo’s praise for Hatton’s unwavering commitment to his Ryder Cup dreams reflects the competitive spirit and talent that Hatton brings to the tournament. As the golfing world awaits Hatton’s performance at The Belfry and beyond, his pursuit of excellence on the course continues to captivate audiences and inspire aspiring golfers around the globe.
