Steve Lewton from Bedfordshire recently claimed his second victory on the Asian Tour after winning the Mandiri Indonesia Open in a thrilling play-off. The 41-year-old golfer had been waiting for this moment for ten years and finally achieved it by securing a birdie on the second extra hole against Aaron Wilkin from Australia and Sampson Zheng from China. Lewton started the final round one shot behind Wilkin and played alongside Zheng and Liu Yanwei. His round included five birdies and two bogeys before finishing with a dramatic double-bogey on the 18th hole.

Despite the setback on the final hole, Lewton managed to finish with a three-under 68 for a tournament total of 16-under, tying with Zheng and Wilkin to enter a sudden death play-off. After all three players made bogey on the first extra hole, Lewton capitalized on a lucky break on the second hole to secure the victory with a birdie putt from eight feet. This win was particularly sweet for Lewton, as he had finished as runner-up in the same tournament for the past two years.

Reflecting on his victory, Lewton expressed his relief and joy at finally getting back into the winner’s circle after a long drought. He highlighted the ups and downs of his final round, where he felt like he was coasting through the front nine before facing challenges on the back nine. Despite the setbacks, Lewton was able to maintain his composure and ultimately clinch the win in the play-off, avoiding another second-place finish.

Lewton’s victory at the Mandiri Indonesia Open marks a significant milestone in his career, which began on the Asian Tour back in 2012. With his previous win coming at the Taiwan Masters in 2014, Lewton’s perseverance and dedication to his craft have finally paid off with another triumph on the tour. His ability to bounce back from adversity and close out the victory in a high-pressure situation demonstrates his mental toughness and competitive spirit.

The exciting finish at the Mandiri Indonesia Open captivated fans and showcased Lewton’s skill and determination as a seasoned golfer on the Asian Tour. His experience and expertise on the course were evident throughout the tournament, as he navigated challenges and maintained his focus to emerge victorious in the end. Lewton’s success serves as an inspiration to aspiring golfers and a testament to the rewards of hard work and resilience in pursuing one’s goals in the sport.

As Lewton celebrates his long-awaited victory, he looks forward to building on this momentum and continuing to compete at a high level on the Asian Tour. With his recent success at the Mandiri Indonesia Open, Lewton has solidified his position among the elite golfers in the region and is poised to make an even greater impact in future tournaments. His determination and dedication to the game ensure that he will remain a formidable competitor and a force to be reckoned with on the Asian Tour circuit.
