Golf in South Korea is a leisurely affair, with the upcoming Bridges Cup tournament showcasing the country’s customs and traditions. Unlike in the U.S., where golfers may rush through a round, in South Korea, the game is played at a slower pace. Golf outings in South Korea are all-day affairs, with golfers arriving early to change clothes, relax in the clubhouse, and warm up before hitting the course. Trunk-slamming is not common, as players take their time preparing for their round. A round of golf in South Korea typically takes at least five hours for 18 holes, not including the customary break between the front and back nine.

After the front nine, golfers in South Korea take a prolonged break to enjoy a snack and a drink, which typically lasts upwards of 20 to 30 minutes. Unlike in the U.S., where breaks are quick and on-the-go, these breaks are considered an essential part of the golf experience in South Korea. Golfers appreciate the beautiful clubhouses and dining facilities at South Korean courses, as well as the opportunity to experience the country’s culture and hospitality. Menus at South Korean golf clubs offer a variety of dishes, including signature items like cold buckwheat noodles, fried chicken, bulgogi, and bi bim bop. Beverages such as beer and rice wine are also served, enhancing the camaraderie and conversation at the table.

While the breaks at South Korean golf clubs are longer than typical at U.S. courses, they are not endless feasts. Food and drink are consumed quickly before players head back out to the course for the back nine. After completing the round, players gather with their playing partners for a more elaborate meal, showcasing the hospitality and service that South Korean golf clubs are known for. The Bridges Cup tournament provides an opportunity for elite amateur golfers to experience the unique customs and traditions of golf in South Korea, showcasing the country’s warm hospitality and culinary delights. With spectacular clubhouses, dining facilities, and breathtaking scenery, golf in South Korea offers a memorable and immersive experience for players from around the world.
