In the heart of the Sandhills of South Carolina stands Broomsedge Golf Club, a dream come true for co-owner and co-designer Mike Koprowski. Unlike many other golf course developers who have poured their fortunes into their passion projects, Koprowski took a different approach, coming from a more modest background and without any previous experience in the golf industry. Despite these challenges, he was able to make his dream a reality through hard work and determination.

Koprowski’s interest in golf course design began at a young age in South Florida, where he learned the game from his father. Although he pursued other paths in his education and career, he never lost his passion for golf and course design. After serving in the Air Force and working in public policy, Koprowski made a mid-life pivot towards his true passion. He began working alongside architect Kyle Franz on various projects, gaining valuable experience and knowledge in the field of golf course design.

With a desire to own and build his own golf course, Koprowski set his sights on the Sandhills region of South Carolina. After finding the perfect parcel of land, he secured a loan and began the process of bringing his vision to life. Despite facing financial challenges along the way, Koprowski was able to attract investors and move forward with the construction of Broomsedge Golf Club.

The course, co-designed by Koprowski and Franz, features a rustic charm and strategic layout that sets it apart from other courses in the area. While Broomsedge is a private club, Koprowski has adopted a model similar to Sand Hills developer Dick Youngscap, allowing outsiders to play the course with a letter of introduction. This approach reflects Koprowski’s desire to share the unique experience of his course with others.

While Koprowski acknowledges that Broomsedge may not reach the same level of acclaim as Pine Valley, he is proud of what he has accomplished and the journey he has taken to get there. Unlike George Crump, the visionary behind Pine Valley who tragically died before completing his dream project, Koprowski’s story has been a happier one. Through hard work, determination, and a willingness to take risks, Koprowski has turned his childhood dream into a reality, creating a legacy that will endure for years to come.
