England’s Under 16s recently won the annual International Match against Ireland in a thrilling competition held at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club in Somerset. The two-day event saw Ireland lead on day one after winning the morning foursomes 3.5-2.5, with the singles matches finishing all-square at 6-6. The competition was incredibly close, with nine out of the 12 singles matches going down to the final hole, highlighting the fine margins between the teams. However, England’s young golfers put in a phenomenal performance on the final day to win the singles 7.5-4.5 and secure a 16-14 victory overall.

England Golf Assistant Performance Manager (Men’s) Jamie O’Connor commended his team’s performance, particularly praising the players for their ability to overturn the deficit and ultimately win the competition. He highlighted the high level of competition and the impressive display of golf from both nations’ best young players throughout the weekend. Players like England Girls’ Summer Carash and Emily Peaford finished the tournament with unbeaten records, showcasing their strength and skill on the course. Additionally, Annabel Peaford, Ben Sessions, and Cameron Mukherjee all secured victories in their singles matches, further contributing to England’s success in the competition.

The event was marked by spectacular golf and intense rivalries between the two teams, with both the England Boys’ and England Girls’ teams coming out on top with 8-7 victories against their Irish counterparts. The competitiveness and spirit of the matches were evident throughout the weekend, making it a memorable experience for players and spectators alike. The tournament was hosted flawlessly by Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, providing the ideal setting for the exciting competition. Both teams are already looking forward to the return fixture next year, eager to renew their rivalry and showcase their skills once again.

Overall, the International Match between England and Ireland proved to be a showcase of exceptional talent and sportsmanship among young golfers. The close competition and thrilling matches kept fans on the edge of their seats, with the final outcome swinging in favor of England’s Under 16 team. The players demonstrated their resilience and determination, especially in the singles matches where every stroke mattered. The performance of standout players like Summer Carash, Emily Peaford, Annabel Peaford, Ben Sessions, and Cameron Mukherjee highlighted the depth of talent on both sides and set the stage for future clashes between these historic rivals.

The success of England’s Under 16 team in this international competition underscores the bright future of golf in the country and the dedication of young players to honing their skills. The coaching and support provided by England Golf Assistant Performance Manager (Men’s) Jamie O’Connor and the entire team have clearly paid off, as evidenced by their impressive performance against a tough opponent like Ireland. As the next generation of golfers continues to develop and compete at high levels, events like the International Match serve as valuable opportunities for growth and learning. With Burnham & Berrow Golf Club serving as a stellar host for the tournament, the stage is set for future generations of young golfers to shine on the international stage and carry on the rich tradition of golf in England.
