Master the low, spinny pitch shot with Akshay Bhatia

If you’re looking to improve your golf game, especially around the greens, Akshay Bhatia is the player to watch. At just 22 years old, he has quickly made a name for himself on the PGA Tour with eight top-10 finishes, including two victories. In addition to his golf skills, Bhatia is known for his charisma, making him a fan favorite among golf enthusiasts. With his success on the course, it’s no surprise that many golfers are eager to learn from him.

In a recent video on Callaway Golf’s YouTube channel, Bhatia shared some tips for hitting a low, spinny pitch shot. This type of shot can be a challenge for many golfers, as it requires the right club choice and understanding of fundamental techniques. Choosing the right shot type from 30 yards out is crucial, as any mistakes could result in added strokes to your scorecard. Bhatia emphasizes the importance of reading the lie and understanding the situation before executing the shot.

For a 30-yard pitch shot, Bhatia suggests having the ball in the fairway or on the first cut, with most of it visible rather than buried in the rough. He recommends opening the face, playing the ball slightly back in your stance, driving forward with your body, and keeping the handle forward. By maintaining a low loft and a slight cut motion through impact, you can achieve a low, driving spinner shot. While it may take some time to get comfortable with these techniques, mastering them can give you an advantage on the putting surface.

One way to enhance your short game and experiment with creativity using a wedge is to incorporate Bhatia’s suggestions. By utilizing the Callaway Jaws Raw Full Face Custom Wedge, you can take your spin and control to new levels. This wedge features aggressive grooves across the face with a 37° wall angle, promoting a controlled trajectory from 80 yards and in. The raw face allows for a more direct connection between the ball and the face at impact, promoting maximum spin. Additionally, offset Groove-in-Groove Technology enhances spin on chips, pitches, and lob shots.

As a golf.com editor, Nick Dimengo recommends following Bhatia’s advice for improving your touch around the greens. With his experience and success on the PGA Tour, Bhatia is a valuable resource for golfers looking to enhance their short game skills. By incorporating his tips and utilizing innovative equipment like the Callaway Jaws Raw Full Face Custom Wedge, you can elevate your game and become more confident in your ability to execute challenging shots on the course.
