Titleist introduced the Pro V1 golf ball in October 2000 after five years of development, aiming to combine the spin and control of balata-covered balls with the distance of solid-core balls. The Pro V1’s rubber core, mantle layer, and urethane cover offered more distance off the tee, consistency with irons, and spin control with wedges during prototype testing. At the PGA Tour’s Invensys Classic that year, Titleist hoped to convince 20 to 25 players to use the ball, but ended up with 47 players, including the winner Billy Andrade and runner-up Phil Mickelson.

The buzz surrounding the Pro V1 quickly grew after the tournament, leading to high demand and prompting Titleist to move up the ball’s retail release from March 2001 to December 2000. Within four months of Andrade’s win, the Pro V1 became the best-selling golf ball in the market and has held that position ever since. By the 2001 Masters, only six months after the Invensys Classic, the Pro V1 was the most-played ball on the course, and Retief Goosen used it to win the 2001 U.S. Open. Titleist reports that the Pro V1 has been used in over 4,000 professional victories worldwide on various tours.

As pros arrived at the TPC Summerlin for the Shriners Children’s Open, they were greeted with the newest versions of Titleist’s flagship golf balls, the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x. The Pro V1 continues to be a top choice among professional golfers and amateurs alike for its performance and consistency on the course. Titleist’s dedication to innovation and quality has solidified the Pro V1’s position as a leader in the golf ball market for over two decades.

The success of the Pro V1 can be attributed to its advanced technology, high-quality materials, and performance benefits for players of all skill levels. The ball’s combination of distance, control, and spin has made it a favorite among professional golfers looking to maximize their performance on the course. With over 4,000 professional victories to its name, the Pro V1 has proven to be a reliable and trusted choice for golfers around the world.

Titleist’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement is evident in the development of the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x, which continue to push the boundaries of golf ball technology. The latest versions of these balls offer enhanced performance and feel, making them a top choice for players seeking the ultimate in precision and control. As the best-selling golf ball in the market for over two decades, the Pro V1 has become synonymous with quality and performance, setting the standard for golf ball innovation and technology.

The Pro V1’s legacy as a game-changing golf ball is evident in its widespread use among professional golfers and its impressive track record of victories on different tours. The ball’s innovative design and performance benefits have cemented its status as a top choice for players looking to improve their game and achieve their best results on the course. With the introduction of the 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x, Titleist continues to raise the bar for golf ball technology, ensuring that players have access to the best equipment to help them succeed on the course.
