Upgrade Your Golf Game: Say Goodbye to the Line on Your Ball with This Simple Trick

Golfers often use lines on their golf balls as a visual aid to help with alignment and aiming before hitting a putt, but it may not always be the best option according to top golf teacher Todd Casabella. Casabella personally prefers not to use a line on his golf ball as he finds it to be distracting and prefers to trust his own process of reading the green with his feet and eyes. However, he recognizes that different players have different preferences and what works best for them is what matters most.

Casabella introduces a unique approach that ditches the traditional line on the golf ball and instead uses three dots for putting. This method, known as ‘three-spot’ putting, involves using permanent markers to put a single dot on the ball where there is a clear space. The three spots represent different points on the green – spot one is the dot on the ball, spot two is an imaginary spot on the ground in front of the ball, and spot three is the point where the player visualizes the ball entering the hole. By focusing on these three spots, golfers can trust the process and improve their putting accuracy.

By using the three-spot putting method, golfers can avoid getting too focused on a single line on the ball and instead react more athletically to the putt. Casabella suggests visualizing the path that the ball will take to roll over spot three and into the hole, focusing on rolling the spot on the ball over the spot just in front of the ball. This technique breaks down the putting process into three simple steps and makes sinking putts feel as easy as 1, 2, 3.

For golfers looking to improve their putting stroke, the Perfect Roll Mirror is a training aid that can help develop a consistent stroke, improve stroke path, ensure square contact with the ball, and reduce common putting mistakes. The mirror features white and green lines for feedback on stroke path and putter face squareness, as well as TrueSquare slots to help achieve square contact with the ball. The compact design of the mirror makes it portable and easy to store in a golf bag for practice on the green.

Overall, the decision to use a line on a golf ball for putting is a personal preference, but Casabella’s three-spot putting method offers an alternative approach that can help golfers improve their putting accuracy. By focusing on three key spots on the green, golfers can simplify the putting process and increase their chances of sinking more putts. Additionally, using training aids like the Perfect Roll Mirror can further enhance putting skills and build confidence on the green. Whether a golfer chooses to use a line, dots, or another method, the most important factor is finding what works best for them and sticking with it.
