Predicting the winner of the 2024 Butterfield Bermuda Championship: analyzing the odds, course history, and top picks

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship is set to begin at the Port Royal Golf Course, featuring a field of players including Mackenzie Hughes, Lucas Glover, Seamus Power, Maverick McNealy, and Daniel Berger. Defending champion Camilo Villegas will be looking to break his current slump by returning to the course where he captured his fifth PGA Tour win. The winner of this event will take home $1.242 million out of the $6.9 million purse and earn 500 FedEx Cup points.

The Port Royal Golf Course, with a par of 71 and spanning 6,828 yards, presents unique challenges for players, particularly with the potential impact of wind and the need for strategic gameplay rather than relying on driving power. A focus on Strokes Gained: Approach and SG: Putting will be crucial for success on this course. Past scores have demonstrated that low scores are achievable, with Villegas winning at 24 under par in the previous tournament.

Various players are favored to perform well at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, with odds and previous finishes influencing their prospects. Notable contenders include Seamus Power, Mackenzie Hughes, Maverick McNealy, and Patrick Rodgers among others. However, several underdog players, such as Ben Griffin and Vince Whaley, also have favorable odds and past strong performances that could make them worthy contenders for the title.

Ben Griffin, with best odds of 20/1, has shown promise with consistent finishes and a strong track record at the event. Justin Lower, with odds of 25/1, has demonstrated his proficiency at the Port Royal Golf Course with multiple top-20 finishes in previous outings. Patrick Rodgers, at 30/1 odds, has a solid history at the course, including a solo fourth finish in 2021 and a tie for third the following year.

Vince Whaley, an underdog with odds of 55/1, has displayed consistent performance during the Tour’s fall season and has produced strong results at Port Royal in the past. With T-16 finishes at events like the Sanderson Farms Championship and Shriners Children’s Open, Whaley’s game might align well with the challenges of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. As players gear up for the tournament, all eyes are on the course and conditions that will test their skills and determine the new champion of the PGA Tour event.
