The ideal way to warm up, approved by professionals, for getting loose before a round

To start, it’s essential to understand the importance of a proper warm-up routine before hitting the golf course. Many amateur players often head straight to the practice area and mindlessly hit balls without preparing their minds and bodies for the upcoming round. Top 100 Teacher Jamie Mulligan emphasizes the need for a more intentional warm-up routine to improve performance on the course. In a video featuring former LPGA pro Veronica Felibert, Mulligan shares his favorite warm-up routine to help golfers get ready for 18 holes.

Mulligan’s warm-up routine starts with using a short iron and taking slow-motion practice swings to loosen up the body and work on sequencing. By focusing on smooth swings and proper sequencing, players can improve their overall performance on the course. Additionally, Mulligan suggests trying a drill where players balance a water bottle on their head during the swing to enhance stability and fluidity throughout the motion.

Another key aspect of Mulligan’s warm-up routine involves using three golf balls for progressions. By varying backswing lengths and focusing on distance control, players can dial in their ball-striking and improve overall consistency. Mulligan emphasizes the importance of tempo and energy in each swing, regardless of the backswing length.

For a kick-start drill, Mulligan recommends incorporating a pivot or shoulder turn to initiate the backswing. By utilizing a separate golf club to help start the backswing, players can loosen up the upper body and improve rotation. Combining this drill with the water bottle balancing exercise further emphasizes the need for maintaining tempo and stability throughout the swing.

Finally, Mulligan introduces the driver to the warm-up routine, focusing on dialing in aim and alignment off the tee. By using an aim stick and grooving a consistent routine, players can ensure proper alignment and improve accuracy on the course. The goal with the driver warm-up is not to maximize distance but to replicate proper alignment and aim during the round.

Overall, Mulligan’s warm-up routine is designed to prepare both the mind and body for a round of golf. By focusing on sequencing, stability, distance control, and alignment, players can improve their performance on the course. This intentional approach to warm-up routines is similar to what top Tour players utilize, highlighting the importance of proper preparation before teeing off. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, implementing these warm-up exercises can help enhance your performance and enjoyment of the game.
