Tony Finau dispels LIV Golf rumors and offers valid explanation for Hero World Challenge withdrawal

Tony Finau recently underwent knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and remove cartilage in his left knee. Despite withdrawing from the Hero World Challenge and not officially registering for the Sentry, the kickoff to the 2025 PGA Tour season, there have been rumors circulating on social media that he may be heading to LIV Golf. Finau dismissed these rumors, stating that he is happy on the PGA Tour and looking forward to the upcoming season.

The 35-year-old golfer is confident that his knee will be ready in time for the Sentry tournament in January. He had been dealing with knee issues throughout the season but waited until after playing in the Presidents Cup to undergo surgery. His doctor attributed the injury to wear and tear over the years, with floating cartilage particles causing inflammation. Despite having similar issues with his right knee in the past, Finau opted for therapy and training instead of surgery.

Finau had to withdraw from the Hero Challenge last week, a tournament he has performed well in the past, with a career-best finish of second in 2018. He had never finished worse than T-7 in the tournament. While still working his way back to full strength, Finau is a bit unsure about competing in the Grant Thornton Invitational, a team event with the LPGA where he is paired with Nelly Korda. He mentioned having trouble getting out of bunkers and putting weight on his lead leg on bunker shots, indicating that he is still recovering.

Although Finau’s knee is still a concern, he is optimistic about the progress he has made and is confident about his return to the PGA Tour in January. He expressed satisfaction with the improvements in his knee and believes that he will be in better health for the upcoming season. Finau’s decision to undergo surgery and focus on recovery demonstrates his commitment to returning to full health and performing at his best on the golf course.

Despite the setbacks caused by his knee injury, Finau remains determined to overcome these challenges and is looking forward to competing in the upcoming PGA Tour season. His dedication to his recovery process and commitment to his career showcases his resilience and perseverance as a professional golfer. Finau’s fans and supporters can look forward to seeing him back on the course and competing at the highest level once he has fully recovered from his knee surgery.
