Scottie Scheffler has surgery following mishap during Christmas dinner

World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler recently underwent surgery on a hand injury he sustained while cooking Christmas dinner. The 28-year-old American was forced to withdraw from the first tournament of the 2025 PGA Tour season, The Sentry in Hawaii, after cutting his right hand on broken glass. Scheffler, who won seven PGA Tour titles last year, is aiming to make a comeback at The American Express tournament on January 16.

Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith, revealed that the injury occurred on Christmas Day when Scheffler sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. The surgery was necessary as small glass fragments remained in his palm. Despite this setback, Scheffler has been assured that he should make a full recovery in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will miss The Sentry but hopes to return to competitive golf soon.

In a strange turn of events, Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland also suffered an injury recently when he posted an X-ray on his official Instagram account showing his little toe pointing at an alarming angle. Hovland humorously blamed a bed frame for the injury, which prompted fellow golfer Collin Morikawa to joke about wrapping himself in bubble wrap on the way to Hawaii. It seems that even off the course, golfers are not immune to mishaps and accidents.

The PGA Tour confirmed Scheffler’s withdrawal from The Sentry tournament in a statement, citing his hand injury as the reason for his absence. As the reigning FedEx Cup Champion and world number one, Scheffler’s absence will surely be noted by fans and fellow competitors alike. The 2025 PGA Tour season is off to an unexpected start with one of its key players sidelined due to an unusual off-course injury.

Despite the setback, Scottie Scheffler remains optimistic about his recovery and return to competition. With a planned comeback at The American Express tournament in his sights, Scheffler is determined to put this injury behind him and focus on his performance on the course. As a highly skilled and accomplished golfer, Scheffler’s presence on the tour is always a highlight for fans and supporters who enjoy watching his talent in action.

As he recovers from his hand injury, Scheffler will undoubtedly be missed at The Sentry tournament, where fans were looking forward to seeing him compete. However, golf is a sport that often presents unexpected challenges, both on and off the course. Scheffler’s situation serves as a reminder of the importance of staying cautious and mindful even in everyday activities such as cooking. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the course soon, entertaining fans with his exceptional skills and talent.
