Will Zalatoris put on 19 pounds for a surprising reason

Emerging PGA Tour star Will Zalatoris is making waves in the golf world, not just for his game, but for his dedication to improving his physical fitness for longevity on the course. Zalatoris, who ended his 2024 season in Colorado, knew he needed to make a change to maintain his high level of play. At 6-foot-2 and 163 pounds, he realized he needed to gain weight to create a better operating weight for himself so that he could play at a high level consistently. His goal was to build strength and stability to prevent injuries and improve his performance on the course.

Zalatoris had faced challenges in recent years, including herniated discs and hip injuries, that hindered his ability to compete at his best. These injuries led him to take time off from the game to heal and undergo surgery. Determined to avoid further setbacks, Zalatoris embarked on a workout program with performance expert Damon Goddard to bulk up and increase his strength. After four months of training, he added 19 pounds to his frame, weighing in at 182 pounds before the start of the 2025 season.

The added weight has not only allowed Zalatoris to maintain his desired carry distances without swinging at full power but has also helped him avoid the need for pain-relieving injections such as cortisone shots. By focusing on building stability and strength, Zalatoris aims to prolong his career and compete at a high level for years to come. He emphasized that his goal was not just about distance but about overall performance and longevity on the PGA Tour.

Zalatoris expressed his excitement about feeling stronger and more capable on the course, likening his current state to feeling as if he had never undergone surgery. He credited his improved physical condition with allowing him to practice and play without the need for extended rest periods or treatments. This newfound confidence in his body has fueled his determination to continue pushing his limits and raising the bar for his performance in professional golf.

As Zalatoris begins his 2025 season at the Sentry event in Maui, he is already seeing positive results from his physical transformation. With an eight-under round to kick off the season, he is showcasing the benefits of his hard work and dedication to his fitness. Moving forward, Zalatoris is focused on reaching new heights in his career and establishing himself as a consistent contender among the best players in the world. By prioritizing his health and well-being, Zalatoris is setting himself up for a successful and sustainable career in professional golf.
