The departure of Greg Norman as LIV Golf CEO has marked the beginning of a new era for the league, with Scot O’Neil appointed to take over the reins. O’Neil, with over 25 years of experience in managing global sports and entertainment brands, is poised to drive the strategic vision, business operations, and global growth of the league. Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan expressed confidence in O’Neil’s ability to build upon the accomplishments of the past three years and lead LIV Golf into a successful future.

O’Neil’s appointment as CEO was met with excitement and anticipation, with Al-Rumayyan praising his passion, tenacity, and vision for the league. Despite stepping aside as CEO, Norman will remain involved with LIV Golf and has expressed confidence in O’Neil’s ability to lead the organization to new heights. Norman, who has been instrumental in establishing and growing the league, believes that O’Neil’s experience and understanding of the entertainment and sports landscape make him the perfect fit for the role.

As the former CEO of Merlin Entertainments and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, O’Neil brings a wealth of experience to his new position at LIV Golf. His tenure at iconic sports teams such as the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Rangers, and New Jersey Devils has prepared him well to lead a global sports league. O’Neil expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead LIV Golf and emphasized his strategic vision, growth plan, and passion for the league.

Norman’s departure from the position he held since October 2021 was expected, with reports indicating O’Neil would be his successor as early as November. Norman expressed his pride in the accomplishments of LIV Golf under his leadership and his excitement for the future of the league under O’Neil’s guidance. He credited Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan for his vision and leadership, which has transformed the game of golf and elevated the league to new heights.

The new LIV Golf season is set to begin in Riyadh on 6 February, marking the next chapter in the league’s journey. With O’Neil at the helm, LIV Golf is poised to continue its growth as a pre-eminent global sports and entertainment company. The appointment of O’Neil as CEO represents a strategic move to position LIV Golf for long-term success and solidify its standing in the world of sports entertainment.
