Review of the Square Golf Launch Monitor

The home launch monitor/simulator market in golf has seen significant growth in recent years, with brands like Garmin and Rapsodo offering affordable solutions for home practice. One such product is the Square Golf indoor launch monitor, which offers both range and on-course functions at an RRP of £699.99. In this review, we will take a closer look at the features and performance of the Square Golf launch monitor to determine if it stands out among portable launch monitors in the market.

Upon unboxing the Square Golf launch monitor, the packaging was well-organized, and the components were of high quality. The unit itself is lightweight at 470g with the battery, though some may question the robustness of such a lightweight device. However, the construction appeared clean and neat, suggesting durability. Setting up the Square Golf app was quick and easy, with a user-friendly interface that provided a brief tutorial on getting started.

The Square Golf launch monitor allows users to use any golf ball, though using the provided pre-dotted balls is recommended for accurate ball data. Despite the affordable price tag, the accuracy of the launch monitor was impressive, with minimal time delay in displaying ball flight data. In comparison to a testing launch monitor, the Square Golf showed consistent yardage and spin rate data, showcasing its accuracy. While it lacks clubhead speed and smash factor data, frequent firmware updates may address this in the future.

Moving on to the on-course setup, the Square Golf launch monitor offered a variety of high-quality courses and an enjoyable gameplay experience. Putting was slightly challenging due to the lack of visual distance cues, but the simulator provided options to make putting easier. The option to adjust green speed added to the personalized experience, enhancing gameplay.

While there is a cost associated with purchasing extra credits for the simulator experience, users receive 1000 free credits initially, equivalent to around 55 rounds of golf. Overall, the Square Golf launch monitor impressed with its realistic gameplay, speed, and accurate data, making it a valuable investment for golfers looking to improve their game at home. The product’s affordability compared to other budget launch monitors makes it a compelling choice for both recreational and serious golfers alike.
