The Genesis Invitational selects new venue after Los Angeles wildfires

The PGA Tour has announced that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be held at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. This decision comes after Riviera Country Club was unable to host the tournament due to recent wildfires in the area. The Genesis Invitational has a long history in the greater Los Angeles area, but the move to Torrey Pines for this year will provide a new and exciting challenge for players and fans alike.

Tiger Woods, the tournament host, is expected to participate in the event at Torrey Pines. Woods has a strong history at the course, including a memorable victory at the 2008 U.S. Open against Rocco Mediate. Woods has also won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines seven times, making him a key figure in the tournament’s history. Fans will be eagerly anticipating Woods’ return to the course for the Genesis Invitational.

Unlike the Farmers Insurance Open, which is played on both the North and South Courses at Torrey Pines, the Genesis Invitational will be exclusively played on the South Course. This course is known for being more challenging, with scoring averages typically three strokes higher than on the North Course. The Genesis will feature a strong field of players, including the top 50 players from 2024, competing for a $20 million purse.

The Genesis Invitational is a Signature Event on the PGA Tour, attracting some of the best players in the world. Players like Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa are expected to compete at Torrey Pines, adding to the excitement of the event. The tournament will provide a unique opportunity for fans to see top-tier golf talent in action at one of the most iconic courses in the country.

In addition to the competitive aspect of the tournament, the PGA Tour has announced that there will be multiple “Los Angeles-related relief initiatives” during the Genesis Invitational to benefit those impacted by the wildfires. This community-focused approach adds another layer of significance to the event, highlighting the Tour’s commitment to supporting those in need.

While Torrey Pines may seem like a familiar venue for PGA Tour events, the Genesis Invitational will offer a fresh perspective on the course with its exclusive focus on the South Course. This change in format, combined with the presence of top players and the charitable initiatives planned for the event, promises to make the 2025 Genesis Invitational a memorable and impactful tournament for players, fans, and the local community.
