The highly anticipated third series of the acclaimed TV show Golf’s Greatest Holes premiered on Sky Sports this week. This special edition, titled The Open Special, features six episodes dedicated to the renowned Royal Portrush Golf Club and its iconic Dunluce Links, ahead of the venue hosting the 153rd Open Championship in July. New episodes will air every Tuesday. Joining hosts Paul McGinley and Chris Hollins on the course are some familiar faces, including Darren Clarke, a local favorite, 2011 Champion Golfer, and Honorary Club Member, alongside Portrush resident, actor, and avid golfer James Nesbitt. Together, they explore selected holes on the spectacular course, blending golf mastery with renowned local charm.

The series is sponsored by Ci Global, a British Innovation company that creates technology to protect people and property. CEO Anthony D Parfitt commented on their delight to be part of the new series and enjoy Chris and Paul’s journey around the world playing the best courses the game of golf has to offer. They join other key partners Your Golf Travel, Motocaddy, and Galvin Green. Supported by Tourism Ireland, the series highlights Northern Ireland’s world-class golf and its renowned attractions, including the Giant’s Causeway, Titanic Belfast, Bushmills Distillery, and Portrush Harbour.

This season marks the first time series co-star Paul McGinley, a former winning Ryder Cup captain, has selected more than one hole from a single course. The show’s previous seasons featured standout holes from 24 courses across the island of Ireland in Series 1, including the 2027 Ryder Cup venue Adare Manor, and a spotlight on Portugal in Series 2. Filmed in 4K ultra-high definition using drones, The Open Special will be broadcast in over 180 countries, including the USA, China, and Australia. North American viewers can catch the series on NBC starting in March.

Since its launch in 2021, the first Series of Golf’s Greatest Holes has reached an estimated 1 billion non-unique households in 189 countries, thanks to repeated screenings by more than 40 broadcasters and many airlines around the world. It’s also engaged with some 50 million digital viewers, as well as a significant number of social media audiences. Tune in to Sky Sports for Golf’s Greatest Holes – The Open Special, and experience the magic of Royal Portrush. Chris and Darren Clarke on the course at Royal Portrush, along with actor James Nesbitt, add local charm and personality to the show. The beautiful Dunluce Links offers incredible views and tests every part of a golfer’s game. The warm reception received by the hosts and guests reflects the pride and deep connection to the Portrush area, making it a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts. The partnership with Tourism Ireland aims to showcase the world-class golf courses and attractions in Northern Ireland to a global audience, encouraging more visitors to experience the beauty and hospitality of the region.

The involvement of sponsors like Ci Global, Your Golf Travel, Motocaddy, and Galvin Green further enhances the production value and reach of Golf’s Greatest Holes. With the series being broadcast in over 180 countries, including major markets like the USA, China, and Australia, the exposure for Royal Portrush and Northern Ireland as a golf destination is immense. The use of advanced filming techniques, such as drones and 4K ultra-high definition, adds a visually stunning element to the show, capturing the breathtaking landscapes and challenging golf courses that are featured.

As the series continues to gain popularity and viewership, it serves as a platform to promote not only the sport of golf but also the unique culture and attractions of Northern Ireland. The return of The Open Championship to Royal Portrush this summer creates even more excitement and anticipation for fans of the game worldwide. By showcasing the best golf holes and courses, along with iconic landmarks and experiences in the region, Golf’s Greatest Holes – The Open Special provides a comprehensive look at what makes Northern Ireland a top destination for golf enthusiasts and travelers alike.

The success of the series in reaching a diverse and global audience underscores the universal appeal of golf as a sport and the timeless beauty of the courses featured. With the ability to engage not only traditional TV viewers but also digital and social media audiences, Golf’s Greatest Holes continues to expand its reach and impact in promoting golf tourism in Ireland. Through partnerships with key sponsors and organizations like Tourism Ireland, the show creates a compelling narrative that showcases the passion, skill, and camaraderie that define the world of golf, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the magic of Royal Portrush and beyond.
