Brooks Koepka reveals the key aspect of golf that amateurs often overlook

In a recent video posted on Rick Shiels’ YouTube channel, Brooks Koepka discussed the importance of playing it safe when in trouble on the golf course. Koepka emphasized that amateurs often go for the heroic shots when faced with trouble, but playing it safe and taking a wedge out can often lead to a better score. He highlighted the importance of getting out of trouble first, rather than going for the green and risking a blow-up. Koepka’s insights shed light on a common misconception among amateurs when dealing with challenging situations on the golf course.

Amateurs often seek excitement and go for the hero shot when facing trouble on the golf course, but this approach can often lead to higher scores. Koepka and Shiels discussed how professional golfers prioritize getting out of trouble first and avoiding risky shots that could result in a worse outcome. By playing it safe and taking a more conservative approach, amateurs can increase their chances of a better score on the hole. Koepka acknowledged that professionals have a rule to get out of trouble first, a mindset that amateurs often overlook.

In a video shared by the DP World Tour social media team, several professional golfers shared their insights on how to cut strokes per round. Nick Faldo, a six-time major winner, suggested “chipping old school” with an 8-iron to get rid of one shot. Rasmus Hojgaard recommended managing expectations by hitting shots within five percent of the distance to gain strokes. Connor Syme emphasized taking the bunkers and hazards out of play to save shots off the tee. Adrian Otaegui advised aiming for the good side instead of the pin to avoid costly mistakes.

Vincent Norrman discussed the importance of pace on the green to cut one shot, while Tyrrell Hatton encouraged amateurs to use the putter around the greens. Marco Penge recommended taking an extra club to account for the misconception that amateurs hit the ball farther than they actually do. These tips from professional golfers offer valuable insights into ways amateurs can improve their game and lower their scores on the golf course. By focusing on strategic approaches and making smart decisions, golfers can work towards achieving better results and enjoying the game more.
