Lee Trevino recently expressed both admiration and concern for professional golfer Scottie Scheffler. Trevino praised Scheffler as a “lovely” and “unbelievable” individual, but also admitted to being scared due to Scheffler’s recent putting experimentation. Scheffler, who had previously won eight times using a traditional putting grip, made a switch to a claw grip last December. Despite this change, Scheffler continued his winning streak, even claiming victory in his first tournament with the new grip at the Hero World Challenge.

Trevino’s concerns stemmed from Scheffler’s willingness to experiment with different putters and grips, despite his previous success on the PGA Tour. Scheffler attributed his decision to try new techniques to his desire for constant improvement. The golfer also works closely with putting coach Phil Kenyon, indicating a commitment to refining his skills and staying competitive at the highest level of the sport. Trevino’s observations of Scheffler’s unique swing mechanics, particularly noting his inside approach to the ball, further highlight the golfer’s unconventional but effective approach to the game.

During a Golf Channel interview, Trevino also shared his perspective on the changing landscape of golf media and broadcasting. While he expressed disinterest in returning to TV analysis, Trevino acknowledged the importance of educating viewers on equipment and techniques used by professional golfers. His emphasis on the significance of swing mechanics, specifically the notion of coming in at “7 o’clock” during impact, underscores his deep understanding of the sport and its technical aspects.

Trevino’s analysis of Scheffler’s swing mechanics, particularly his ability to come inside and generate power through foot positioning, showcases his keen eye for detail and expertise in evaluating golfers’ techniques. By highlighting Scheffler’s unique approach to the game, Trevino offers valuable insights into the intricacies of professional golf and the diverse strategies employed by top players on the Tour. Despite his initial concerns about Scheffler’s putting experimentation, Trevino’s admiration for the golfer’s talent and work ethic is evident throughout the interview.

Overall, Trevino’s commentary on Scheffler’s game and his own insights into swing mechanics underscore the complexity and nuance of professional golf. As a respected figure in the golfing community, Trevino’s perspective carries weight and offers valuable insights for fans and aspiring players. By providing a nuanced analysis of Scheffler’s approach to the game and his commitment to improvement, Trevino highlights the ever-evolving nature of golf and the constant quest for excellence among elite players on the PGA Tour.
