Finca Cortesin, located in Casares, Spain, is a championship golf course that stands out from others for its unique, challenging layout that doesn’t reveal itself slowly over multiple rounds. Designed by Cabell Robinson and stretching over 7,400 yards, the course is known for its mix of doglegs, blind shots, and severe changes in elevation. The wide playing corridors provide ample room for shots, but the dense vegetation lining the edges means that stray shots are likely to be lost. The course’s design clearly shows golfers the intended shots on approach shots, with mid-sized greens that feature subtle slopes influenced by the grain of the Bermuda grass.

Playing at Finca Cortesin requires a strategic approach, with an understanding of the greens, landing zones, and inherent risks on each hole. Members of the club have a significant home-field advantage during local matches, as they are familiar with the challenges and nuances of the course. The region of Costa del Sol in Spain, where Finca Cortesin is located, boasts a rich history of elite match-play competitions, including the Solheim Cup in 2023 and the Ryder Cup at nearby Real Club Valderrama in 1997. With 85 golf courses in the area, Costa del Sol is known as the “Costa del Golf” due to its high density of courses.

In addition to Finca Cortesin, other notable courses in the region include Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, forming a triumvirate of unparalleled golf experiences. Valderrama is known for its narrow, tree-lined fairways that challenge players in different ways than Finca Cortesin’s layout. Playing all three courses in the region is a must for golf enthusiasts visiting Costa del Sol, providing a variety of challenges and experiences. For accommodation, Finca Cortesin offers a luxurious 67-room hotel modeled after a palatial country house, blending modern amenities with ancient decorative accents for a unique stay.

The resort at Finca Cortesin operates as a lifestyle and wellness retreat with a world-class golf course, catering to guests seeking relaxation, wellness, and golf experiences. Golf enthusiasts visiting the region can enjoy a comprehensive golfing experience by playing the three courses in the area and staying at Finca Cortesin. The resort is considered a destination in itself, offering guests a blend of modern amenities and historical charm. With its challenging championship course, luxurious accommodations, and focus on wellness, Finca Cortesin provides a unique and memorable golfing experience in the Costa del Sol region of Spain.
