Suffering from a slice in your golf game? You’re not alone. The slice is a common miss among recreational golfers and can even plague more experienced players. This pesky shot shape is caused by two main factors: an open clubface at impact and a swing path that is severely out-to-in. But fear not, there is a simple fix that doesn’t require you to overthink it when you’re standing over the ball.

James Hong, a GOLF Teacher to Watch, has a foolproof exercise that can help you correct your swing path and eliminate that slice. He calls it the “swimmer’s motion.” By holding an alignment stick across your chest and mimicking a swimming backstroke motion, you can encourage a drop to the inside and reroute the club, leading to a more neutral swing path. This exercise has had great success with Hong’s students, with one golfer seeing a significant improvement in just one session.

This drill is designed to help golfers who tend to come over the top due to an out-to-in swing path. By focusing on rotating your shoulders backward rather than forward, you can retrain your body to make a more efficient swing that eliminates the slice. It’s a simple and effective method that can be implemented without needing to drastically change your overall swing mechanics.

Many golfers struggle with making swing changes, but the swimmer’s motion exercise provides a clear and tangible way to improve your swing path. It’s a hands-on approach that can produce immediate results, as evidenced by the golfer who saw his swing path improve from 11 degrees out-to-in to just two degrees after trying the exercise. By incorporating this drill into your practice routine, you can make significant progress in eliminating that unwanted slice from your game.

While there are various reasons for a slice in golf, focusing on correcting your swing path is key to finding a lasting solution. By understanding the fundamentals of a neutral swing path and implementing exercises like the swimmer’s motion, you can start to see improvements in your ball flight and overall consistency. Don’t let the slice ruin your round – take control of your swing path and watch your game improve.

Incorporating drills and exercises into your practice routine is essential for making lasting improvements in your golf game. The swimmer’s motion is a simple yet effective way to address an out-to-in swing path and eliminate the slice from your game. By committing to regular practice and focusing on proper swing mechanics, you can start to see tangible results on the course. Don’t let the slice hold you back – take charge of your game and work towards a more consistent and reliable swing path.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned golfer, the slice can be a frustrating and limiting issue in your game. By addressing the root causes of the slice and implementing targeted exercises like the swimmer’s motion, you can make significant strides in improving your ball flight and overall performance on the course. Remember, golf is a game of continual improvement, and by focusing on your swing path and making necessary adjustments, you can overcome the slice and elevate your game to new heights.
