Discovering Golf and Scenic Views in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is a golfer’s paradise, with multiple courses boasting seaside holes that offer stunning views and challenging play along the ocean. With 27 golf courses in the country, six feature holes right on the water, while an additional 86 holes offer splendid ocean views. The country’s small size, roughly the same as South Carolina, packs a big punch when it comes to seaside golf experiences.

The legendary “Teeth of the Dog” course at Casa de Campo Resort in La Romana is currently closed for major renovations but promises to deliver an unforgettable golfing experience once it reopens in December 2025. Designed by Pete Dye, the course features two of the most famous seaside stretches in the world, with seven holes routed along the coast. The par-3 5th and the tough-as-nails par-4 17th offer thrilling challenges and breathtaking views of the ocean.

Punta Espada Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus, offers eight holes along the Caribbean Sea near Punta Cana. The course features a stunning three-hole stretch on the front nine and an adrenaline-pumping back nine with five holes along the ocean. The 13th hole, a long uphill par-3 with a forced carry over a bay of breakers, can be a round wrecker but provides some of Jack’s prettiest work. Nearby accommodations at Sanctuary Cap Cana offer a luxurious retreat after a day on the course.

The Corales Puntacana Championship at the Tom Fazio-designed Corales course at Puntacana Resort features world-class golfers competing on a stunning seaside course. With four seaside holes, including the exquisite par-4 18th, Corales offers a top-tier golfing experience in the Caribbean. The nearby La Cana Golf Club, designed by P.B. Dye, offers solid seaside golf with 14 ocean-view holes and three right on the water, as well as an inland nine with excellent shot values.

Playa Grande Golf Club, the last course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., offers an ultra-private golfing experience with eight seaside holes that provide memorable views and challenges. PGA Ocean’s 4, designed by Maverick Golf, offers a well-rounded golf experience with four ocean holes and a mix of parkland, desert, and lakeside holes. Both courses provide unique seaside golf experiences in the Dominican Republic’s diverse golf landscape.

One of the significant benefits of golfing in the Dominican Republic is the warm, tropical weather, eliminating the need for cold-weather gear typically required in traditional links golf destinations. With sunscreen, shorts, and neoprene being the essentials, golfers can enjoy the stunning seaside courses while soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful views. The country’s golf-rich landscape, combined with its warm climate, makes it an ideal destination for golfers looking for a picturesque and challenging golf getaway.

In conclusion, the Dominican Republic offers a diverse array of world-class seaside golf courses that cater to golfers of all skill levels. From the legendary “Teeth of the Dog” at Casa de Campo to the stunning Punta Espada Golf Club and the challenging Corales course at Puntacana Resort, golfers can experience breathtaking views and thrilling challenges along the country’s coastline. With warm tropical weather year-round and luxurious accommodations at nearby resorts, the Dominican Republic is a must-visit destination for golf enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable golf vacation.
