Just weeks following her first county title victory, Tavares delivered yet another outstanding performance, carding an impressive even-par 72 to secure the girls’ medalist title. Her remarkable effort featured a nine-stroke lead over her teammate Georgia Grace Spence, propelling McKeel to a towering team district championship.

This season has indeed been a meteoric rise for Tavares. After finishing fourth at last year’s county tournament, she has made her mark this season by taking first place. To put her recent accomplishments in perspective, she finished the district tournament with a score of 79, just six strokes behind Frostproof’s Hannah Castillo – a performance reflective of her rapid improvement in the sport.

Tavares expresses a remarkable humility, stating, "I just play my game. I wish I could have played even better than what I shot today." She acknowledges the importance of focusing on her game plan: "I try to hit my driver in the fairway." The Wildcats had five golfers finish within the top six, underscoring the collective strength of the team. Spence, with a score of 81, was the runner-up, followed closely by Caroline Dekalb (82), Rachel Rajavich (86), and Keya Kavalackal, who tied for sixth.

McKeel’s coach, Jeremy Bohnenstiehl, expressed immense pride in his team’s performance. "They came together as a team and played team golf," he said. This harmony is not only improving individual performance but also setting the stage for a promising future in competitions ahead.

In the boys’ division, the Auburndale’s Lane Brown also made headlines. In a surprising twist during the final holes, he secured the individual title by just a stroke after previously trailing. Brown, who initially was seeded fifth on his team, shot a 77 while regularly gaining a sense of stability, with ten consecutive pars.

In the team contest, McKeel narrowly bested Auburndale with a final score of 335, besting their rivals by just six strokes. This competitive rivalry adds another layer of excitement in local high school sports, as both teams prepared to take on new challenges ahead.
