2025 Sally Championship: A Celebration of Women’s Golf and Potential Three-Peat

The anticipation is building as the 2025 Sally Championship is set to kick off, featuring a competitive field of 96 golfers. Tournament director Chuck Grant emphasizes, “It’s becoming a more selective field.” This year, these participants have been handpicked from nearly 250 applications, underscoring the growing quality of competitors.

A Historic Event

In honor of its 100th anniversary, the Sally Championship, also known as the Women’s South Atlantic Amateur Championship, will be held over 72 holes at Oceanside in Ormond Beach. Reflecting the evolution of women’s golf, this year promises to be more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of the sport’s rich history.

Star Competitors

This year’s tournament is distinguished by a notable presence of standouts from national college programs and top junior golfers. Among them is Kary Hollenbaugh, a senior All-American at Ohio State University, who is vying for her third consecutive Sally Championship title. Hollenbaugh made waves last year by finishing at 5-under-par 283, the only golfer to end the tournament under par, securing her victory by five strokes.

Noteworthy Past Champions

Hollenbaugh’s name joins a prestigious list of past winners that includes Hall of Fame legends like Patty Berg and Babe Zaharias, along with modern LPGA stars such as:

  • Cristie Kerr
  • Lexi Thompson
  • Brooke Henderson
  • Jessica Korda
  • Grace Park

Adding to the competitive ambiance, several other young golfers are set to return, including Kaitlyn Schroeder from UNF and Georgia’s Karoline Tuttle, both of whom finished in the top five last year. Palm Coast native Alexandra Gazzoli, a sophomore at Florida State University, is also in the field, having averaged just over 72 strokes per round in three collegiate tournaments this past fall.

Attendance and Accessibility

The tournament opens its doors to spectators free of charge. However, be advised that parking is limited at the club, with overflow parking available at the nearby Granada Plaza.
