Brooks Koepka Returns to the PGA Tour: What to Expect
Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, is set to make his highly anticipated return to the PGA Tour on January 29 at the Farmers Insurance Open held at Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, California. This marks his first appearance in a non-major PGA event since 2022 as he navigates his path under the Returning Members Program, which offers a structured plan for a select number of LIV Golf Tour members wishing to regain their PGA Tour membership.
Koepka’s Possible Schedule
Under the current program, Koepka has unique competitive opportunities. His eligibility includes:
- Major Championships: Koepka has exemptions for the following:
- U.S. Open: Exempt through 2028 due to his 2018 victory.
- PGA Championship: Lifetime exemption after winning three times.
- Masters and British Open: Eligible through 2028 based on his 2023 PGA Championship performance.
- The Players Championship: Eligible through 2028 from his latest PGA victory.
- Signature Events: Koepka can qualify through various play-in categories, including:
- Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 based on FedEx Cup standings.
- Climbing to the top 30 in the World Golf Rankings (currently 255th).
- Winning a full-field PGA Tour event. Note that he is ineligible for sponsor exemptions for Signature Events.
Based on these criteria, Koepka has the potential to compete in 22 regular-season PGA Tour events, with further opportunities if he qualifies for Signature tournaments.
Upcoming Events
During a recent news conference at Torrey Pines, Koepka expressed his commitment to participate in two forthcoming events:
- WM Phoenix Open: Next week post-Farmers Insurance Open.
- Cognizant Classic: Scheduled for February 26-March 1, hosted at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.
New Member Elections to the Player Advisory Council
In other news, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, along with fellow major champions Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland, and Adam Scott are among 16 PGA Tour members who have been elected to the Player Advisory Council (PAC) for the 2026 season. This council serves as a consulting body that provides recommendations to the PGA Tour Policy Board on behalf of its members.
Further Elected Members:
- Sam Burns
- Corey Conners
- Charley Hoffman
- Max Homa
- Hank Lebioda
- Max McGreevy
- Alex Noren
- Neal Shipley
This election cycle will also include a vote to select a PAC chairman from candidates Scott and Glover, with the winner serving a four-year term on the Policy Board.
Rising Star: Blades Brown
In the younger demographic, 18-year-old Blades Brown is making waves in the golf world. Turning professional at 17, Brown is participating in the Korn Ferry Tour Panama Championship, his fourth event this season.
- He became the youngest player to shoot a 60 in a PGA Tour event on January 23 at The American Express, displaying his promising talent.
Brown has previously played both Korn Ferry events in The Bahamas and is poised for continued success. Despite missing a cut and finishing tied for 18th at the Great Abacos Classic, he’s accumulated nearly $350,000 since turning pro.
