Justin Thomas suffered a painful missed cut at the Masters after a collapse in the second round that helped 11 other players advance to the weekend. Thomas’ collapse on the final four holes included double bogeys and led to a seven-over 79 that pushed the cutline from five over to six over par. It was a bit of déjà vu for Thomas, who missed the cut at the Masters for the second straight year.

The Masters also saw other notable players miss the cut, including the reigning U.S. Open champion, who struggled in the gusty conditions during the second round. A 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole narrowly missed, leaving him one stroke outside the cut. Additionally, former Masters champion Justin Rose missed the cut for the third time in his last six starts, despite his previous success at Augusta.

The FedEx Cup champion also struggled, playing the first five holes of the second round in seven over par. Despite a chance to make the cut, he ultimately finished nine over and missed out on the weekend. 2015 Masters champion Jordan Spieth also missed the cut after a quadruple-bogey on the 15th hole in the first round, marking just the second time in his Masters career he had consecutive rounds over par.

Sam Burns, a five-time PGA Tour winner, also experienced a disappointing performance at the Masters, likely distracted by his wife’s upcoming due date for their first child. Brian Harman, the reigning Open champion, struggled in his first major as a major winner and failed to make the weekend after shooting an 81 in the first round. Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson also missed the cut for just the third time in his career after a brutal second round.

Defending champion Dustin Johnson, who started 2024 strong, struggled at Augusta National with rounds of 78-79, missing the cut for the second time in four starts since his 2020 Masters triumph. Johnson’s record-setting score of 20 under in the November Masters was safe this week as he struggled to find his form. The Masters saw multiple top players falter, showing the unpredictable nature of golf and the challenges presented by Augusta National.

Despite the disappointments, the Masters also showcased the resilience of the players who made the cut and will compete over the weekend. While missing the cut is never easy for any player, it can serve as motivation to work harder and improve for future tournaments. The unique challenges of Augusta National test even the best players in the world, with the pressure of major competition adding to the difficulty of the course.

As the weekend unfolds at the Masters, fans can expect to see more drama and excitement as the remaining players battle for the coveted green jacket. The missed cuts serve as a reminder of the unpredictability of golf and the mental fortitude required to compete at the highest level. Regardless of the outcome, the Masters continues to be one of the most prestigious events in golf, attracting the world’s best players and providing memorable moments for fans around the world.
